Abstract
THE IMPORTANCE OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND TYPOGRAPHY IN GRAPHIC DESIGN
Aim of this study is to convey importance and contribution of photography and typography which effected whole world from the first day of its existence, to graphic design. In the first section of this study, graphic design is being defined. In the second section, a brief history of photography, the way that photography involved in people’s life, the way it evolved both scientifically and visually, and its impacts on societies are being explained. Also its usage as a visual element in communication and advertising, its importance in graphic design within the digital era by the discovery of computer technologies are being expressed. The third section is dedicated to examination of typography. Its alteration by time, current areas of use and its importance as a graphic design element is being identified. In this study, not only the effects of time on graphic design and its elements, but also the effects of usage of photography and typography in graphic design on societies are mentioned.
