Abstract
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SARUHAN (MANISA) SANJAK IN THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE AND ITS IMPACT ON OTTOMAN MILITARY ORGANIZATION
This study examines the significance of the Saruhan (Manisa) Sanjak within the Ottoman Empire and its impact on the military structure of the state. The research analyzes the formation and integration of local power structures during the Ottoman expansion, with a special focus on the role of the Anatolian principalities and, in particular, the Saruhan Beyliği. The study demonstrates that the implementation of the sanjak system not only facilitated military logistics and operations but also ensured the administrative stability and economic prosperity of the conquered regions by harmonizing local traditions with centralized governance. The findings indicate that the successful integration of indigenous administrative practices into the Ottoman system was a critical factor in the empire’s military modernization and sustained expansion strategies.
