Abstract
CANYON TOURISM POTENTIAL OF ADIYAMAN PROVINCE AND PLANNING SUGGESTIONS
Canyons are of great importance in terms of ecotourism with their natural beauty and different activity opportunities. In this study, canyons within the borders of Adıyaman province were examined. In addition, it is aimed to include Adıyaman canyons, which are in an important position in terms of rural and regional development, in the literature and included in tourism routes and tourism planning. Canyons, which are steep-sided valleys formed as a result of millions of years of erosion, are an important tourism value in geological and ecological terms. Within the scope of canyon tourism, activities and sports such as climbing, nature walking, glass terrace observation area, boat tour, swimming and rafting are carried out. There are many canyons in Turkey that have been opened to tourism. There are canyons with high tourism potential in Adıyaman. In the research, Gerger Canyon, Sugözü Canyon, Göksu (Kızılin) Canyon, Zey Canyon, Cendere Canyon, Değirmençayı Canyons were examined and the tourism potential of these canyons was revealed. It has been observed in the field studies and field observations that Adıyaman has canyon tourism potential. Planning suggestions have been presented for canyon areas that need to be brought into tourism. It is expected to contribute to rural and regional development efforts by revealing the potential of canyon tourism.
