Abstract
THE INTELLECTUAL CONTRIBUTIONS OF DR. MUDAR KHALIL AL-OMAR AND THEIR SPATIAL APPLICATIONS IN THE GEOGRAPHY OF CITIES
Today is a product of the past, and tomorrow is an implant of today. Therefore, the current reality cannot be comprehended except by reviewing the path taken by the phenomenon or event under study during an appropriate period of time, as the geographer derives information and facts about his research area from what predecessors wrote during previous periods of time, and these facts may change. About the same region as time changes, so the geographer resorts to updating information and facts about the place using multiple methods, and then he must observe, link, analyse, interpret, and process in order to give a vision that reflects his personality and geographical thought.
The Iraqi memory is full of the names of pioneering national figures who left distinctive marks in all social, economic, political, cultural and scientific fields. Among these figures stands out Professor Dr. Mudar Khalil Al-Omar, who is considered a pioneer of contemporary geography in Iraq. This study came to present an analytical vision about The impact of an Iraqi geographer on the process of geographical thought and its spatial applications in the geography of cities, and the impact of that trend and its role in deepening the importance of the science of geography.
This study aims to shed light on a creative Iraqi personality who combined distinctive qualities and characteristics, reflecting a bright scientific biography worthy of research and investigation, as he is considered one of the researchers who is open to the world and who aspires to global models in a special geographical vision, as our venerable world has been greatly influenced by the various sciences and this has become clear. In his use of some terms in his various scientific productions that geographers are not accustomed to using and may be rejected by the pioneers of traditional geographical schools.
