Abstract
EVALUATION ON THE CONCEPT OF MIGRATION AND THE TURKISH-GREEK EXCHANGE TREATY (1923)
Migration is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon that involves individuals breaking away from their homes and settling in new places. While migration can have positiveeconomic and social effects, it also has challenges. One of the most important challenges ofmigration is the integration of newcomers in the countries they migrated to. Integration ofdifferent cultures has always been painful. Language barriers, cultural differences anddiscrimination make it difficult for immigrants to adapt to their new environment. However, integration can be facilitated when the right policies and support systems are implemented. Itcan lead to positive economic consequences for both immigrants and host countries. In history, there have been states whose economies have grown thanks to immigration. The 1923 Population Exchange between Greece and Turkey was the first major immigration population exchange in the 20th century, or the decision to force an excessively narrowed over-migration. It is an agreement promoted and supervised by the international community as a member of the Treaty of Lausanne. The two societies for forced asylum included nearly two million people who, despite having lived together throughout their upbringing, would be legally naturalized from their homeland. On January 30, 1923, the document on the Greek and Turkish Population Exchange was signed between the governments of Greece and Turkey in Lausanne, Switzerland. The exchange also illustrates the Turkish government's view of its citizens of Greek Orthodox origin and the Muslim Turks of Greece among its Greek citizens.
