Abstract
EXAMINING THE MATCHING LEVELS OF THE READING SKILLS ACQUISITIONS OF THE 2019 TURKISH COURSE CURRICULUM WITH THE ACTIVITIES IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL TURKISH TEXTBOOKS
The aim of this research is to reveal to what extent the reading skill acquisitions in the 2019 Turkish Language Curriculum overlap with the activities in the textbooks. The research was carried out in accordance with the principles of document analysis, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The data sources of the research consist of reading skill activities in secondary school Turkish textbooks. Reading skill activities are the activities in which the students answer the questions about the texts after the texts in the textbooks and try to make their knowledge permanent in this way. Activity-Gain Overlap Level matrices prepared by the researchers were used to collect the data. It was tried to determine the level of overlap of the acquisitions under the fluent reading, vocabulary and comprehension sub-titles under the reading skill by means of matrices. The data obtained through these matrices were digitized by using descriptive statistics techniques. Based on the results obtained from the research, it has been seen that the reading achievements in the program overlap significantly with the reading achievements included in the reading activities in the textbooks. However, when the gains and activity examples are examined, it is understood that these acquisitions are mostly the acquisitions that require the information that the student can easily access from the texts. Although the curriculum has been updated over the years, it seems that there are still unresolved problems.
