Abstract
DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS FOR AĞRI DURING THE RULE OF DEMOCRAT PARTY (1950-1960)
The works for the development of the country at the earlier stage of the Republic on account of inadequacy in qualified man power, security problems and social issues, could not be reached the desired level. As a result of the elections on 14 May 1950, the Democrat Party rule started. As the rule of Democrat Party started, there were many changes all around the country. Ağrı had an important share among the provinces which were at the centre of these changes. For the first 27 years of the Republic, Ağrı was mainly known with the insurgencies took place in the province.
As Democrat Party came to rule, as result of either suitable conditions or intensive efforts of the government for the development of the region, Ağrı had important investments. Since the Prime Minister Adnan Menderes took place in the investigative visits to the provinces at east and contacted with public here, the development efforts were affected very positively. There were improvements in many fields where construction at first place in addition to education, health, agriculture and husbandry, and the modern public institutions were started to be constructed.
