Abstract
LITERARY ANALYSIS OF TOURISM PROMOTION BROCHURES
Tourism is seen as one of today’s popular areas in both education and business. Thus, tourism has closely related ties with education as well as politics, culture, and economy in a country. By looking at the dimension of education in the context of tourism, it is observed that it interacts with many disciplines such as foreign language education, literature, folk science and psychology. Therefore, this study specifically focuses on the interaction between tourism and literature. Then, the interaction between tourism and literature is explained by giving the examples of the poets and writers’ selected works from each city in Turkey and across the world. The specific attention is given on the works of poets and writers who are identified with their cities. In addition, the contribution of the poets or writers’ museum houses and literary museums was emphasized as being the interaction between tourism and literature. In this study, the brochures and web pages published by City Directorates of Culture and Tourism have been examined in terms of the literary elements. The study shows that the names and biographies of the poets and writers are not included in the brochures of the related cities. Hence, the importance and usefulness of adding literary information was emphasized as they carry a touristic value in the promotional brochures. This study also prepared a map of the literacy for each city, which reflects the richness of Turkey. Some possible literacy routes for tourism are also suggested.
