Abstract

EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF THE TOPOGRAPHY ON THE SETTLEMENT AND POPULATION FACTORS IN NEVŞEHİR
In this study, which reveals the distribution of population and settlements of Nevşehir province according to topographic factors in the Central Kızılırmak section of Central Anatolia Region, it is tried to explain the relationship of population and settlements with slope, aspect and elevation. For this purpose, 1 / 25.000 scaled topographic maps have been used, digitizations and classifications have been made by using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Population data of settlements in the study area were obtained from Turkey Statistical Institute (TUIK). When the relationship between the settlement and the population in the province of Nevşehir is examined, it is seen that 40.91% of the settlements are built on steep slopes and 66.22% of the people are gathered on steep slopes. 17,61% of the settlements were gathered in the east direction and 46,69% of the population were gathered in the east direction. Considering the relationship between settlements and population elevation, 26.16% of the settlements were established at 1051-1150 m elevation and 47.01% of the population were gathered at 1151-1250 m elevation. Yamalı village (898 m) which belongs to Gülşehir district is the lowest settlement, while Ağcaören village (1537 m) is the highest settlement. It was determined that the number of settlements and the population had a parallelism with the slope and maintenance factors in terms of proportionality, but there was no parallel in the distribution of the number of settlements and the population with elevation.
