Abstract


A RESEARCH ON MATHEMATICAL ATTITUDES OF SECONDARY SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS INTERESTED IN SPORTS
In this study, mathematics attitudes of middle and high school students interested in sports as amateur, professional or hobby and the sub-dimensions of interest, anxiety, work and necessity of these attitudes were investigated. A total of 342 students from three public and four private schools were surveyed. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained, more than half of the students who are interested in any sport as amateur, professional or hobby have positive attitude towards mathematics course. However, when the sub-dimensions were examined; It was determined that as the time allocated to sports increased, the average of interest and study decreased, mathematics anxiety of male students was higher than female students, and mathematics anxiety of middle school students was higher than high school students. On the other hand, it has been determined that the interest of athlete students in mathematics does not depend on gender and type of school (public school, private school). Another result of the study is that students who are interested in sports have a high sense of responsibility towards mathematics lesson.
