Özet
Sözden ve yazıdan önce var olan dansın kökeni tarih öncesine dayanır. Dans, vücut eşliğinde vücut hareketleriyle duyguları, verilmek istenen mesajı veya bir temayı ifade etmeye olanak sağlayan sanat dallarından biridir. Kendisini ifade etmeden yaşamını sürdüremeyen insanoğlu için en eski ve ilkel anlatım biçimi olan dans, insanın toplumsallaşmasıyla değişerek varlığını bu güne kadar devam ettirmiştir.
Dans kostümü dansın çok önemli bir öğesidir. Dans kostümünün, dansla verilmek istenen mesajla uyum içinde olması gerekir.
Dansın içeriği seyirciye vermek istediği mesajla bir bütünlük oluşturmalıdır. Dans kostümü, dansı sahneleyen dansçıların, danslarının özelliğine uygun kullandığı giysilerdir.
Betimsel yöntemin kullanıldığı çalışmada dansın tarihçesi ve dans kostümleri hakkında bilgi verilerek farklı temalara uygun dans kostümü tasarımları yapılmış ve her bir köstüm irdelenerek yorumlanmıştır.

Abstract
Origin of dance, existed before words and writing, dates back to the prehistoric ages. Dance is one of the branches of art enabling expression of emotions, a message or a theme by way of gestures. Dance is the oldest and the most primitive way of expression for human that cannot live without expressing himself. Dance has continued its existence up until now by changing in parallel with the socialization of human being.
Dance costume is very important part of the dance and therefore supposed to be harmonized with the message given through dance.
Dance costumes are clothes worn by dancers as part of the act and should create coherence with content and message of the dance. Dance costumes are clothes worn by dancers in accordance with the characteristic of dance.
This study, for which the descriptive method has been used, provides information as to the history of dance and dance costumes, exhibits dance costume designs suitable for different themes and includes examination of each costume.
