Abstract

SYMBOLIC AND ECONOGRAPHIC EXPRESSION IN TURKISH PICTURE ART UNTİL TODAY
Abstract In this research, the origins and basic dynamics of symbolic and iconographic narration in Turkish art were discussed. Descriptive method was used in the study. Starting from the products of the ancient Turks, the written sources were scanned up to today's art applications and the findings were interpreted in the context of the subject. Since the time of Turks have revealed their own way of life, their culture and, consequently, their understanding of art. The foundation of Turkish art is the continuing cultural development and different forms of belief. In the history of Turkish art, Asian Huns, Gokturks, Uyghurs developed an art style related to cultural traditions and this style of art was the basis for the art of Turkish states such as Seljuk and Ottoman who came after them. The Seljuk and Ottoman states synthesized the Central Asian art tradition within the framework of Islamic religion. The Turkish artist, who has taken matters in the form of life and belief, has used a symbolic and iconographic language. Petroglyphs that the Proto-Turks made are based on animal style, Uygur wall paintings and miniatures are the basis of the Seljuk and Ottoman miniatures. It is seen that symbolic and iconographic narration in Turkish art is very important until Western style painting. The westernization reforms of the Ottoman Empire gave rise to the realization of a Western style realistic painting concept in Turkish art and it is seen that the symbolic and iconographic narration continued in this understanding.
