Abstract


THE USE OF CONCEPT MAPPING METHOD IN SOCIAL SCIENCES TEACHING
Concept mapping is one of the most promising developments in education. The aim of this research is to introduce the importance of concept maps in Socıal Scıences education. İt is arecent development that is becoming more widely used as constructivist learning models are more accepted in science education. At the same time concept mapping is a teaching and learning strategy that provides a bridge beıween whal we know about how people learn and meaningful learning. This study is descriptive research and, limited with only indicating importance of concept and concept maps in Socıal Scıences education. Samples of concept maps that can be used in Socıal Scıences education, benefits and importance of concept maps are aimed to determine. In this research, we made out these conclusions; learning would be easier by using concept maps, because of giving weight to the visual meaningful learning would be provided, it would help students to understand relations between concepts by linking them with lines. Besides it is considered that fishbone map analysis would be better to teach in gaining the cause and effects of hıstory events. The studies of example about concept maps in Socıal Scıences are continuing, and it will be continuation of this study. It is considered that suggested examples in the conclusion will generalize to use concept maps Socıal Scıences education.
