Abstract

A STUDY ON EDUCATION SYSTEM OF ENGLAND: COMPARISON WITH TURKISH EDUCATION SYSTEM IN TERMS OF AIM, STRUCTURE AND PROCESS
The aim of this article is to compare the England Education System with Turkish Education System. Governing structure of English education system is shaped in three levels as central, local units and schools. Nevertheless, central government is generally in charge of the provision of the education service; in other words, it is executive and responsible for setting national policies and the direction of system. In England, the compulsory education includes six years primary and five years secondary level in total eleven years. English education system with its relatively autonomous local government and educational organizations has a more flexible and individualized structure; whereas in Turkey there is a more centralist education system which is confined to definite patterns. In England although there are ministries in charge of education, they do not have as much bureaucracy and a strict hierarchical structure as in Turkey. In England there is a more horizontal structuring. In Turkey when the curriculum is examined, the content and the process build upon intensive information transfer. However, in England there is a lighter curriculum in terms of information loading to the students which prioritizes visuality and skills building and increases creativity.
