Abstract
TECTONIC GEOMORPHOLOGY OF ISTANBUL (NW TURKEY)
In this study, it is aim to questioning the tectonic history of Istanbul, left by geomorphological evidence, with the help of some of the morphometric parameters belong to relief. In addition, eliminating the gap of scientific publications on tectonic geomorphology is another purpose of the study. The study is important in contributing to understanding of the geological history of Europe, as well as interpretation of the geomorphological view of how is opened in the Bosphorus. In the study, DEM (Digital Elevation Model) data and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software was utilized. In the event, Istanbul morphotectonic development is supported by the data of morphometric take the form of warpage in the way that Anatolian Peninsula to the north,Thracian peninsula to the south. The findings are consistent with the Model of Şengör which reported in related literature.
