Abstract


COMPUTER LITERACY LEVELS OF TURKISH-LEARNING FOREIGNERS IN TURKISH TEACHING RESEARCH AND APPLICATION CENTERS: SAMPLES OF ZONGULDAK, GAZİANTEP, BOLU
The target of this study is to establish the computer literacy levels of Turkish-learning foreigners in Turkish Teaching Research and Application Centers (TTRAC) The sample of the study includes 221 foreign students who learn Turkish in Teaching Research and Application Centers (TTRAC) studying at state universities in provinces of Zonguldak (Bülent Ecevit University) , Gaziantep and Bolu (Abant İzzet Baysal University). Quantitative scanning model based on description was used in the study. The data of the study were gathered through computer literacy scale. Those data were analysed using SPSS 17.0 program. As a result,it was ascertained that gender variable wasnot influential in sections of basic skills within the scope of computer literacy, applying for software skills and computer awareness; on the other hand, it was influential in favor of males in the section of programming. Once again, university variable was not influential in the sections of applying for software skills and programming; however, it was identified that it was influential in basic skills and computer awareness sections. As for age variable, it was influential in basic skills and programming; however, it was influential at the age of 20 and other age groups in the section of applying for software skills and also influential at the age of 18 and other age groups in the section of computer awareness. In conclusion, the frequency of using computer does not influence the level of computer literacy. Findings of this research are considered to be of use in teaching Turkish as a foreign language through computers and the Internet.
