Abstract
AN INVESTIGATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL HEARING-IMPARED STUDENTS’ ATTITUDES TOWARDS TURKISH LANGUAGE COURSE DEPENDING ON DIFFERENT VARIABLES
The aim of this study is to examine secondary school (fifth, sixth-, seventh- and eighth- grade) hearing-impaired students’ attitudes towards Turkish language course depending on gender, grade level, use of hearing aid devices, duration of hearing impairment and degrees of hearing loss. A screening model was used in this study. Data were collected using the 21-item “Turkish Language Course Attitude Scale” developed by Kapar Kuvanç (2008). Study sample consisted of 29 hearing-impaired students of a state school. Research was conducted with the participation of the researcher in the spring semester of the 2017-2018 academic year. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows 22.0. Results showed no significant effect of gender, grade level, use of hearing aid devices, duration of hearing impairment and degrees of hearing loss on secondary school hearing-impaired students’ attitudes towards Turkish language course. Findings were discussed in relation to previous studies and several suggestions were made
