Abstract


EVALUATION OF ANXIETY LISTENING IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE OF STUDENTS OF DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION
Listening is an essential element of communicative continuity in a natural language. The listening individual makes sense of what is said, directs the communication by taking the order of speech and makes the continuity of language permanent in the discourse dimension. If learner cannot make sense of what is said because listening requires it, he can be worried. This study aims to determine the listening anxiety of foreign language students and to determine which factors cause listening anxiety in the learners. The sample of the study is comprised of the students of Kazım Karabekir Faculty of Education, Department of Foreign Languages. A total of 159 participants were interviewed with a questionnaire “the Anxiety Listening in Foreign Language”. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were found to be Cronbach Alpha 0.83. The anxiety experienced in listening is revealed in the meaning of the language. Foreign language students are most likely to live in situations where they cannot make sense of what is spoken when the issue is spoken too quickly, when they have not had enough information about the subject being heard, when they are exposed to a bad speech and they do not understand what they listen to, when the teacher reacts negatively.
