Abstract


EXAMINING OF THE MENTAL TOUGNESS LEVELS OF SPORTS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS (SAMPLE OF MALATYA PROVINCE) SPOR
Measuring mental endurance is an important element for the evaluation and development of psychological performance. For this reason, the aim of this study is to examine the mental toughness levels of sports-high school students who actively engaged in sports.The universe of study were composed of high schools in Malatya province and the sample group were composed of sports high school students. A total of 182 students participated in the research. Survey method was used in the research. The questionnaire used were consiststed of two parts. In the first part, there were 6 questions about the demographic information of the students, In the second part, "Mental Toughness Scale" (MTS) developed by Madrigal, Hamill and Gill (2013) and adapted to Turkish by Erdoğan (2016) were used. SPSS program was used in the statistical analysis of the data and the significance level was chosen as 0.05. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that mental endurance levels of high school students were high. Moreover, there was no significant difference between the students' grade levels, gender, age, education level of mother and father and scale total scores. But there was a significant difference between ‘’are you interested in team sports or individual sports?’’ question and the scale (p <0,05). It can be said that this difference is in favor of the students who are interested in team sports. The average score of the students who are interested in team sports is 46,23, while the average score of those who are interested in individual sports is 43,08.
