Abstract


USING CARTOONS IN TEACHING TURKISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE: RAFADAN TAYFA EXAMPLE
The aim of this study is to examine the contribution of cartoons to the development of vocabulary in Turkish language teaching as a foreign language. Therefore, the cartoon series called "Rafadan Tayfa," which is broadcasted on TRT Çocuk channel, has been analyzed in terms of vocabulary and language structures. The contribution of cartoons to vocabulary was examined primarily based on idioms, proverbs, collocations, and fixed expressions. Language structures were investigated regarding adjectives, pronouns, adverbs, conjunctions, question sentences, and comparative expressions. The document analysis design from qualitative research methods was used in this study. The data group consisted of episodes 1, 34, and 71 of the selected cartoon series "Rafadan Tayfa," which were randomly chosen through simple random sampling method. The data were analyzed using content analysis method. Quotations with their corresponding minutes from the examined episodes were used to enhance validity and reliability. According to the findings obtained; it was determined that pronoun sentences are frequently used in the analyzed episodes of "Rafadan Tayfa" cartoon series while proverbs are less present; idioms and question sentences are also commonly utilized. Cartoons appeal to different senses and facilitate learning new words and grammar rules within context in a natural way. The findings indicate that the cartoon series "Rafadan Tayfa" can contribute to improving language learning skills and proficiency in using language nuances.
